Parts Ordering:

Parts are usually ordered from distributors. Places such as Digi-Key, Jameco, etc. carry a variety of parts. When selecting parts, please be sure that the parts are in stock or are expected in stock soon. Note that some parts have minimum quantities.

Please use this spreadsheet as a format for your part orders. Once you have completed the spreadsheet, E-mail it to me and I will have Clint place the orders. Errors in your information, such as incomplete part numbers, will delay your order. In some cases, there may be parts that I already have that may be able to substitute for the parts you have selected.

Please take advantage of opportunities to get samples from vendors where appropriate. Make it clear to the vendor that the parts are being used in a student design project. Some vendors will supply samples for such use; others will not.

Note:

  1. Spreadsheet from multiple teams will be combined into an order to a particular source. Thus, it is important that the team name field be on each line of your spreadsheet.
  2. Parts are generally not ordered instantaneously. We save on shipping by combining orders from multiple teams into a single order.
  3. Avoid many small parts orders, even if you think you are in a hurry. Shipping costs and minimum order amounts are the issues here.
  4. When selecting parts, you should be careful to specify the correct packaging. Many IC's come in a variety of different packages. Discrete components do also. It matters.
  5. Remember that we have a budget of about $500 per team. Be frugal.
